After much discussion, discourse, and conversation concerning the place of Black Americans here in the US; I believe more than ever is the time to highlight, inspire, encourage, acknowledge, and continue to tell the story of African Americans here in the United States. A healthy discussion is needed for healing, growth, unity, and uplifting the ones who have come before us. If you are new here, I am a big fan of cinematography, retro, glam , and vintage aesthetic. I admire the pioneers of artists who have exemplified their artistry through these genres and forms. I have decided to dedicate this blog series on highlighting Black American women who are trailblazers and the glamorous divas we know today. Their influence is magic, powerful, and ground breaking and it is only right to celebrate their influence. Starting off strong, with someone I LOVE and ADORE, THE LEGENDARY DIANA ROSS.
When you think of the lead singer of the one of the best selling girl groups, ‘The Supremes’, GLAMOROUS must come to mind. The singer has an impeccable catalogue, a style, and beauty to match it ! It’s no wonder the star went to a high school where she focused on fashion design, that love showed up in her outfits. She was not only the lead singer of one of the best selling girl groups of all time, but she was a fashion icon. Miss Ross is known for her big hair, feathers boas, sequins, glitter, shimmer, and dramatic eye makeup. Miss Upside down, through her style and fashion sense she became a symbol of power, femininity, and luxury. She was a trailblazer and a force to be reckon with for her monumental impact on fashion, music, beauty, and Black American culture.
I started this series on my channel due to the recent discourse about the validity and essence of Black American culture here in the United States. There was much discourse on TikTok about their not being enough black American beauty creators. The discussion also touched into territory where African Americans feel under appreciated for their contribution to society. Many times the Black American culture is not recognized even though it is heavily influenced globally, the origin of many different forms of art and innovation, and has major similarities to it counterparts. This series on YouTube is about highlighting an integral part of black American culture and being inspired with a part of it I deeply resonate with and sharing my love for the some queens of Black American culture.
